Displaying Art or Scrapbook Layouts

During the last school year I had two children in preschool who brought home art projects almost daily! You can imagine that our refrigerator was completely covered with their art. This summer I was at my friend Danielle’s house and she had an easy and unique way to display her children’s art. The very next day I headed to IKEA to find the wire curtain rod and clips I needed!

Here’s the finished product with art created last week courtesy of my children!

My husband cut the wire for the curtain rod because it was longer than our wall.

I love this display for several reasons:

  • Larger items can be displayed by using multiple clips (like the large pocket on the left).
  • Three dimensional items can be displayed (like the green apple headband in the middle).
  • Items can be easily added and removed.
  • The art can now be seen from more than one room in our house instead of just in the kitchen.

Here are the materials from IKEA that I used:

The curtain rod is not only perfect for displaying art but also for displaying scrapbook layouts! I use the curtain rod, hooks and my 3 ring page protectors to hang these scrapbook layouts.

Here’s a closeup of two of the layouts.

Four clips and two page protectors are needed to hang two layouts. Two clips secure the top layout to the curtain rod and two clips hang from the holes of the top page protector and clip on to the bottom page protector. I used these page protectors: 12×12 3-Ring Photo Sleeve Refills: 6×4 Pocket 10-Pack. (affiliate link) They are the same ones that I use for my scrapbook albums so I had them on hand!

So far my children have loved clipping their art up on the wall for display and I love looking at it!

  1. love this idea!

  2. thanks for this great idea Kelly – i guess you could just swap the pages around so easily as the mood changes at home!

    • Yes! That is definitely one of the reason why I love this setup. I can imagine having a lot of holiday layouts from through the years displayed at the end of the year. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. :)

  5. I have these wire curtain rod and clips from Ikea too! I haven’t put them up yet because I wasn’t sure where I wanted them on the wall height-wise. I really like your idea of using page protectors AND hanging two layouts downward. :)

    • Hi LinhC. If you hang it up higher you can get 3 or more layouts hanging down! I wasn’t sure where I wanted it height-wise on the wall either but the night before school started 2 weeks ago, I told hubby we had to put it up in case the kids came home with art from the first day of school! LOL! So just do it! :)

  7. I totally adore this display. I haven’t scrapbooked in a long time because I feel like it’s just so much effort to be squashed in a book and not looked at again for generations. I’d be way more motivated to do it if I had a cute rotating display like this above my sofa!

    • Hi Mac. I display scrapbook pages a few different places around my house. I have two hanging above my crafty work area, one hanging in our entry way and one on our entertainments center. I love to see my work and it is fun to rotate the pages out based on the time of year or even just my mood! We also look through our scrapbooks fairly often. It is so much fun to re-live all the memories! I hope you start scrapping again! Thanks for linking me! :)
