Two months ago I did a little scrapbook shop exploring in Orlando looking for baby girl scrapbook items. One of my stops was at at Piktails. I looked around and kept coming back to a baby chipboard album. I had never done a chipboard album before but was excited to try something new!
– BABY chipboard album by Heart of Texas Studio
– 5 sheets of 12×12 paper (I used paper from the Mambi Sheets Baby Girl stack)
– ATG gun and adhesive
– assorted ribbons (from my stash)
– Xacto knife
– cutting mat (I used my Creative Memories cutting mat)
– paper cutter
– embellishments (rhinestones, stickers, etc for decor)
– pencil (or hole punch)
– two rings to bind the album together
First, arrange the paper to be used in order.
The neighboring papers should show contrast – either by color or by solid/patterned. This will provide visibility for all the letters. Even though I decided the paper order at the start, I changed the last paper once I finished the first 4 chipboard letters because that it needed more contrast.
The album is slightly shorter than 6 inches and 12 inches long so one sheet of 12×12 paper (cut in half) is sufficient to cover the front and back of a letter. First cut the paper into 12×6 pieces. Take care to cut the paper from left to right so the paper will be the correct orientation.
Next, apply adhesive to the chipboard letter and then lay it on a flat surface. Next lay the 12×6 sheet of paper on top of the chipboard letter. To save cutting work, line up one corner of the paper with a corner of the chipboard letter.
Lay the chipboard album on a cutting mat and use an Xacto knife to cut around the paper to fit the chipboard letter. I could not find my hole punch so I had to cut the holes with the Xacto knife as well. To get the holes to look round I punched a pencil through the hole and pulled it through.
Repeat this for the front and back of each of the chipboard letters. Then bind the album together with the rings, tie ribbons around the rings and embellish the album.
Who was the recipient of this chipboard album? My sister! Here she is after opening it at her recent baby shower.
