I love to read and one of my favorite books is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I often watch Pride and Prejudice while I am folding laundry and before too long the laundry has folded itself. The long eloquent speeches by Miss Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy are my favorite parts of the book/movie. My husband reminds me a lot of Mr. Darcy. He is a man of few words but when he speaks you want to hear what he says. The theme for this month’s Silhouette Challenge is kids. I went with babies and created this future Mr. Darcy onesie. You may swoon if you are sitting down. The Mr. Darcy part of the design uses glitter heat transfer vinyl because Mr. Darcy shines above all the rest!
Supplies:
- all links in supplies are affiliate links
- 1 cotton onesie
- Silhouette heat transfer vinyl in black
- glitter heat transfer vinyl in sapphire
- Silhouette Portrait
- Silhouette hook
- iron
- ironing board
- piece of cotton fabric (for ironing)
Instructions:
1. Download the file you need. These files are only for your personal use. I have already mirrored the design for use with heat transfer vinyl (HTV).
I used a 0 – 3 month onesie for this project so you may want to resize the design if you are using a larger size.
2. Use the Silhouette to cut the heat transfer vinyl. Load the shiny plastic side of the HTV down into the Silhouette. For the glitter HTV, I used the Silhouette setting for Heat Transfer Material Flocked. I used the Silhouette cut settings for Heat Transfer Material for the regular vinyl.
3. Weed the designs. I find the Silhouette hook helpful in helping me grab the middle of letters for weeding and to hold down any stubborn letters.
4. Iron on “Mr. Darcy” HTV. I ironed on the “Mr. Darcy” portion first because that is the most important part of the design.
I used one of my son’s old cotton blankets between the iron and the HTV and pressed the iron down for 60 seconds.
5. Iron on “future” HTV. Since the HTV plastic is clear, it was easy for me to center “future” above “Mr. Darcy.” The ironing and peeling process is the same as in step 4.

Such a cute onesie idea!!!
Thanks Katie. I wish I had a Silhouette when my kids were babies. They would have been more stylish. ๐
Awww! I love Pride and Prejudice, and I love this!!!
Thank you Jessica! I haven’t re-read the book in a while. Think I will add it to my summer reading list. Thanks for stopping by.
SO cute– you should sell these!
Thank you Malia. I have thought about adding this and a few other things to my Etsy shop. We will see how things go this summer.
Gahhhh, I just LOVE that glitter vinyl! It so makes me want to finally give HTV a go. I keep meaning to but just haven’t found the time yet. This may be what I need to finally whip something up. Thanks for the inspiration, and the great tutorial!
HTV is awesome Christine! The glitter HTV is even better than that. I’ve been wanting to try rhinestones but will stick with the glitter HTV for now.
This is such a cute idea! Way to go!
Thank you Mackenzie. ๐
These are too cute!! I’m so glad my friend had a boy…I’m definitely “stealing” this idea! Jane Austen is the best <3 The glitter htv adds that pop. Good job ๐
LOL Brittany. It’s not stealing when the cut file is free! I’m so happy you are making this for your friend’s little boy. As far as I am concered, the more Mr. Darcys we have in the world the better! ๐ Thanks for stopping by.
Super cute!! I love how this onesie turned out!
Thank you Rachel. I am so glad I had the glitter htv. It wouldn’t have looked the same without it. ๐
Oh my gosh, I LOVE this Kelly!! Such a clever idea, and the design with that blue glitter…just too perfect!
Thanks Meredith! I am happy I had the blue glitter htv on hand. I think I am going to have to order more htv in glitter colors so I can create right away when the mood strikes.
