One of our holiday traditions is to send our family an ornament with a photo of our kids. I purchased this year’s ornament from Michaels. I love that it is so simple and has the year so prominently displayed.
The packaging says the frame is 2 inches by 2 inches but that was not the case. Precise measurements of the frame are necessary to fit the photo into the frame. I turned the ornament over and took the backing out to measure the size of the photo that fits in the frame and the size of the frame opening.
The frame holds a 1.75 inch square photo but the opening where the picture is displayed is only 1.5 inches square. The following video shows how I used Photoshop Elements 10 to size my photo precisely so that I know what shows through the opening of my ornament.
If you can’t see the embedded video, click here to see it on YouTube.
If your frame is circular or some other shape, you can use the other shape tools in PSE to create the clipping masks that you need to make it work for your frame.
I needed multiple images for several ornaments so this is the result of the video tutorial.
Happy holidays!
Hi Kelly,
I bought your 2013 design frame (like the one above) from Michaels. I’d like to know how to get the same frames for the prior years, eg. 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009,etc.
Thanks
Hi Polly. I have the 2011, 2012 and 2013 ornaments. I did look for 2010 and before and didn’t find them anywhere online. I did see 2011 and 2012 on Ebay a few weeks ago. I hope you what you are looking for!
i just bought a couple from Michaels too. Thanks for the tutorial. And I absolutely adore your kids. they are so darn cute ๐
Thank you Bridget! I love these ornaments and glad that you like them too. Merry Christmas.
