My daughter Kara wears tiaras all the time. Strangers always ask me if it is her birthday and it makes me smile. A couple of weeks ago, I designed DIY Patriotic Temporary Tattoos and one of the designs was “all AMERICAN princess.” That designs was specifically for Kara. I made her a shirt using that same design with glitter heat transfer vinyl for the 4th of July!

Supplies:
- white cotton t-shirt
- sapphire blue glitter heat transfer vinyl
- red glitter heat transfer vinyl
- iron and ironing board
- Silhouette Portrait
- Silhouette mat
- piece of cotton fabric
Directions:
1. Wash, dry and iron the shirt.
2. Download my all American princess Silhouette cut file by clicking here or on the preview below. Please note this file is only for your PERSONAL USE.
When using heat transfer vinyl (HTV), the image needs to be flipped horizontally from the original. The design in my cut file is already flipped for convenience.
2. The design needed to be cut with two different colors of HTV so I divided up the design and moved it around. This helped minimize the amount of HTV used.
3. I cut a strip of HTV just the width and height of each design in the appropriate color and placed it on the mat. Then I used the Silhouette Heat Transfer Material (Flocked) setting to cut the HTV using my Silhouette.
4. I weeded the image by removing all the excess glitter HTV from the plastic backing.
5. I slipped a piece of cardboard inside the shirt and ironed the area where I was going to apply the HTV. The cardboard helps keep the HTV application smooth.
6. Place the blue HTV on the shirt. Cover the HTV with a piece of cotton fabric and iron per the HTV directions. Never touch the HTV plastic directly with the iron.
7. Carefully peel back the plastic from the shirt. Be careful not to burn your fingers on the hot plastic. If any vinyl lifts off with the plastic, smooth the plastic back down, cover with the fabric and iron again.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the red HTV. Note that the red vinyl was cut apart so it could be place on different place on the shirt.
9. Place the piece of cotton fabric over the glitter letters and iron again. Remove the cardboard. Turn the shirt over and iron the back of the shirt.
Now the shirt is worthy of an all American princess! Have a wonderful 4th of July for all those that celebrate it! I am looking forward to a long weekend with my family.
This is ADORABLE and so is your daughter! What do you mean by plastic backing? Is it like transfer paper? Yours looks so much thicker!
Thanks Judy. The plastic backing is the shiny part of the htv that you place down on your mat. After you cut, you want to remove the extra htv so that you only have AMERICAN and the crowns sticking to it.
Your daughter is so cute in that shirt. I love her tiara too. What a great design you made and with glitter too. Glitter is one of my favorite things!
Thanks for stopping by Katja! I love glitter too! See you at Haven!
This is so cute. I need done new iron on vinyl colors. Love the glittery vinyl!
Thank you Katie! I ordered the glitter HTV from ExpressionsVinyl.com. They had great prices and fast shipping!
