My kids are obsessed with LEGOs. My daughter is going to be Olivia from LEGO Friends for Halloween. When we were at LEGOLAND Florida over the weekend, the kids asked me if they could buy LEGO Halloween buckets. I searched all the stores at the park but didn’t find anything so I decided to make my own. I found small yellow buckets at Party City for $0.99 each. I have occasionally used vinyl before but have never layered it so I found a great tutorial on how to layer vinyl from Silhouette School.
I created these buckets with vinyl and the Silhouette but you can also make this project with plain paper/cardstock and adhesive. Print this printable PDF out on white paper or cardstock. Cut out the shapes and use adhesive to stick them to the bucket. Below is the supply list and instructions for creating this project with the Silhouette.
Supplies:
- Silhouette vinyl in black
- Silhouette vinyl in white (affiliate link)
- Oracal 651 vinyl in red
- Cricut transfer tape (affiliate link)
- yellow bucket
- Silhouette mat (affiliate link)
- Silhouette (affiliate link)
- scissors
Directions:
1. Download my free Silhouette cut file. This file is only for your personal use. Please note that the buckets that I used were on the smaller side and you may want to adjust the size of the images before you cut. Even as I was developing these designs, I sent the cuts to my printer to see if they were the correct size.
The cut file contains cuts to create one male and one female bucket. There are 2 of every design because I put the design on the front and back of the bucket.
2. Cut the different designs using the black, white and red vinyl. I placed blue dividing lines in between the different colors. The green rectangles (which I will call placement rectangles going forward) are for lining up the cuts per the Silhouette School tutorial mentioned above. I positioned the placement rectangles to minimize the amount of vinyl used.
3. Weed the vinyl by removing all vinyl from the lining that is not part of the finished design. Remove lining paper from the transfer tape and place it on top of the vinyl designs. Smooth the transfer tape down onto the vinyl with the popsicle stick provided with the transfer tape. Cut into pieces with scissors.
4. Add the vinyl to the buckets.
male bucket
- Place the black vinyl and transfer paper onto the bucket. Smooth it down and peel off the transfer paper leaving the eyes, mouth and placement rectangles on the bucket.
- Pick up the white vinyl and transfer tape. Bend the transfer tape back until a small portion of the placement rectangles peels off. Line up the white placement rectangles on the transfer tape with the black placement rectangles on the bucket. Smooth it out and peel the transfer tape off leaving the white eyes and mouth.
- Remove the black placement rectangles from the bucket.
female bucket
- Place the black vinyl and transfer paper onto the bucket. Smooth it down and peel off the transfer paper leaving the eyes, eyebrows and placement rectangles on the bucket.
- Pick up the red vinyl and transfer tape. Bend the transfer tape back until a small portion of the placement rectangles peel off. Line up the red placement rectangles on the transfer tape with the black placement rectangles on the bucket. Once it is lined up, smooth the vinyl and transfer paper down. Peel back the transfer tape leaving the red lips and red placement rectangles on the bucket.
- Pick up the white vinyl and transfer tape. Bend the transfer tape back until a small portion of the placement rectangle peels off. Line up the white placement rectangles on the transfer tape with the red placement rectangles on the bucket. Once it is lined up, smooth the vinyl and transfer paper down. Peel back the transfer tape leaving the white eye balls and teeth on the bucket.
- Remove all the placement rectangles from the bucket.
Both buckets took me a total of 30 minutes to make. I surprised my kids with their buckets when they got home from school and they declared me the best mom ever! I’ll take it! ๐

I love these buckets, not only because they are PERFECT for Halloween, but they’d also make great storage later for a kid’s room. And you are very deserving of the Best Mom Ever award! ๐
Awwww… you are sweet Christine! I love making things for kids and I think you deserve a share of the Best Mom Ever award too! R is a lucky kid!
These are so cute, Kelly! Those yellow buckets make a perfect “canvas” for Lego heads!
Thanks Emily. The buckets do look like blank LEGO heads. ๐
These are so cute. We are doing a LEGO movie family theme for our Halloween costumes, I’ll have to try and find little yellow buckets this week!
That sounds like a ton of fun Karen! If I were a LEGO movie character I would have to be Wildstyle! ๐ Have a wonderful Halloween!

Thank you Shannon! I am going to miss it when my kids are too old for trick-or-treating but I am enjoying it while it now. Thanks for stopping by!
Nice work Kelly! We do need something for all of his candy this year…
We’ve been out trick-or-treating twice now and these buckets worked out great. They were small enough so the kids didn’t feel like they were too heavy before they emptied them out to bags that we were holding for them. I hope you and your son have a great Halloween!
Very cute Kelly! My grandson would love this! Pinned!
Thank you for the nice compliment Jeanie and the pin!
