Kara has an assignment to build a leprechaun trap and bring it to school on St. Patrick’s Day. What Kara does, Colin usually wants to do too so we got to work a few days ago when the kids had a day off from school. First, we looked searched Google images for inspiration. We found all sorts of fun leprechaun traps. If the kids liked some aspect of a trap, I would save the image to my laptop. When we were done researching, we looked at all the pictures I saved and the kids started forming ideas about what they wanted to do. We went to Dollar Tree and Michaels to buy our supplies. All the St. Patrick’s Day stuff was 50% off at Michaels which was great.
When we got home from shopping, I had to make lunch before we started working on the traps. The kids went into Colin’s room and built a trap using LEGOs. There are stairs leading up to the trap. Inside the trap are gold coins that no leprechaun can resist.
This is the view of the LEGO leprechaun trap from the side. Colin decided to add a train engine to make the trap look more realistic. There are palm trees because we live in Florida.
Kara decided she wanted to make a slide trap.
She knows that leprechauns can’t resist doing what they aren’t supposed to do so she made “DO NOT USE SLIDE” signs and posted it on either side of the slide. The pot of gold over at the top of the slide ladder and near the bottom of the ladder was to persuade the leprechaun to go down the slide and become trapped in the bucket. There are also chocolate coins in the bottom of the bucket to keep the leprechaun busy until we find it.
Colin made a second leprechaun trap so that he could trap two leprechauns at once. He borrowed Kara’s pot of gold idea from her trap.
My kids wanted me to post these pictures to help provide ideas to other kids who want to make their own leprechaun traps.
I will let you know if we catch any leprechauns!
Leprechaun traps?! How have I never heard of this! So cute.
You are not alone Michelle! I had never heard of them either until Kara got her assignment. Apparently they are all the rage in second grade at her school.
