My husband and I left for our honeymoon from our wedding reception. Our family took care of the wedding gifts but we took the cards with us on our honeymoon. We were saving money for our first house so we didn’t plan an expensive honeymoon. After we were settled at our bed and breakfast, we looked through the cards. Tucked inside one of the cards was $500 in cash! We decided to use the unexpected gift to splurge and have an amazing honeymoon. I have always remembered that gift and enjoy giving newlyweds some splurging cash in a gold foiled honeymoon fund jar.

The honeymoon fund jar is easy and takes minutes to create. This craft is perfect for the wedding edition of Craft Lightning – crafts that can be completed in 15 minutes or less.
Supplies:
- Silhouette printable gold foil
- quart sized smooth Ball mason jar
- Transform MASON gold tone bank slot lid and band
- Silhouette Portrait
- Silhouette Portrait mat
- Silhouette scraper tool or credit card
- Silhouette hook tool
- Cricut vinyl transfer paper
Instructions:
1. Download my Silhouette Studio cut file. These files are only for your personal use. No commercial use is allowed.
The honeymoon fund jar cut file is formatted so that there are 3 rectangles, one on top of the other, around the design.
The rectangle will be cut 3 times which will cut through the foil AND its backing. This will make it easier to weed and conserve the gold foil paper for a future use.
2. Place a sheet of printable gold foil paper on the cutting mat and load it into the Silhouette. Use the cut setting for Printable Foil Silhouette brand and cut the design.
Look at those crisp cuts! This was my first time using the adhesive backed Silhouette printable gold foil and I highly recommend it.
3. Weed the design. Lift off the excess foil from the mat leaving the rectangle with the design on the mat.
Removing the foil around and inside the heart was easy. I used the Silhouette hook tool to remove the foil inside the honeymoon fund letters. Weeding the foil was so much easier than weeding vinyl or heat transfer vinyl.
4. Cut a piece of vinyl transfer paper a little bigger than the size of the design. Peel the adhesive off the vinyl transfer paper. Then use the Silhouette scraper tool or a credit card to smooth the transfer paper over the foil. Carefully lift the adhesive backed foil off the white backing paper.
5. Place the foil/transfer tape combo on the mason jar. I had no idea that Ball made smooth mason jars but I am in love with them. Use the scraper tool or credit card to make sure the foil is adhered to the mason jar. Then slowly lift the transfer paper off the jar and the foil. Be careful not to lift the foil off the jar with the transfer tape.
6. Remove the jar lid insert and band and replace it with the bank slot insert and band. The foiled honeymoon fund jar is complete.
My foiled honeymoon fund jar is ready to be gifted at the next wedding I attend. This would also be a great group wedding gift. Everyone can donate whatever amount they want for the happy couple.
So simple but oh-so-adorable! All of my friends are married but I think ‘date night’ is just as good a cause to make a jar, too ๐

Thanks Brittany. I think if I made a jar for myself it would be for some crafting or blogging related item like a Cameo (I have a Portrait) or a new camera lens. ๐ I am sure you can relate.
Such a great idea. I may not be getting married but I may start a new couch fund or a vacation fund ๐
Thanks Michelle. This idea could be used for any “fund.” I just love the printable gold foil!
This is such a great gift idea, Kelly! And I love the look of the gold foil on your jar!
Thank you Emily! The printable gold foil is great to work with. I want to think of more projects to use it on… maybe for Christmas!
This is such a great gift! I like your idea to make it a group gift too….I think that would be really handy for co-workers, or even just to place at the bar during the reception to grab a little extra money for the newlyweds, sort of like the “Dollar Dance” (or whatever that thing is called where people take turns dancing with the bride and groom and give them cash on the dance floor when they cut in…sorry, I’m rambling now). ๐ Anyway, love this idea!
Thank Christine. It is a great idea to put it out at the wedding reception. I have only seen them do the dollar dance at a wedding once and this jar could even be used to collect that money! ๐
I haven’t seen this gold foil – I can’t wait to try it.
The foil is amazing Janet! I didn’t do it, but you can also print on the gold foil and then cut it out. The adhesive backing also makes the foil winning.
That gold foil is like WHAAAATTT!?!?!? Love it!! I need to get my hands on some. We get married in Key West so it was our wedding and honeymoon combined but in a couple of years we will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary and I think that deserves a second honeymoon! ๐
A Key West wedding sounds so great Kelsey! We celebrated 10 years in the same place where we took our honeymoon. The gold foil is awesome!!! My local JoAnns and Michaels carry it but it never seems to be in stock. I bought mine on Amazon. The direct link is in the supply list.
Such a cute idea! I love the Silhouette and what it can do!
Thank you Cher! I love the Silhouette too. It makes it so easy to personalize gifts.
Oh my goodness! I love it!!
Thanks Angie. I love how easy it was to cut and use the gold foil.
