How To Save Money On Books

August 5, 2015 By Kelly 30 Comments

My family and I fled Vietnam when I was a baby and immigrated to the United States. I only spoke Vietnamese until I started first grade. It was a struggle to learn English as well as reading and writing. I was placed in the lower reading groups until fourth grade when I finally overcame the language barrier and began to excel in school. That is also when my love of reading began. My family was not wealthy so there were no fancy vacations or after school activities. Reading was my only exposure to new places and experiences. My love for reading grew over time and as an adult I am completed addicted. I read at every opportunity. So far this year I’ve read 47 books and am on pace to read 80 by the end of the year. You can imagine that reading so many books can get expensive.

I am thrilled to have discovered Thriftbooks.com to help me save money on books. The site offers a selection of over 7 million books at great prices. You can find out-of-print and second-hand treasures with just a quick search of the website. I recently ordered 5 books off my to-read list for $18.37.

Buying the books new would have cost $71.95. I saved 75% on the cost of these 5 books!

Thriftbooks.com also offers a loyalty rewards program. For every $50 you spend, you receive $5 coupon to spend on more books! These books are headed to the beach with me this summer.

I loved hearing about your background…my story is really different but I’ve always had an obsession with books, starting as a really young child. I can’t believe that free shipping is after $10! Thanks so much for sharing this Kelly!

Thank you Melissa. I’m happy that your kids love to read. My daughter loves to read series after series. She read the entire Box Car Children series last year and it is over 100 books! I loved reading series when I was younger and still do! ๐Ÿ™‚

Love this idea! I also love used books, and then idea that someone else has been enjoying them before you read them. There is something special about that!

I think the $10 minimum for free shipping is great too Christine. I don’t like to pay for shipping so it is ideal for me. This would be a great way to stock your son’s library.
