Lighted Glass Block Christmas Present

November 20, 2015 By Kelly 13 Comments

Day 5 of the Holiday Craft Party brings home decor projects. For last year’s Holiday Craft Party, I created a We Wish You A Merry Christmas glass block with free cut file. This year I made a lighted glass block Christmas present to put under my tree. Be sure to enter the giveaway for Michaels and Minted.com gift cards at the end of this post.

Create a lighted glass block that looks like a glowing Christmas present for your Christmas decor.

Supplies

  • 8×8 glass block (bought at Hobby Lobby)
  • 1 string of mini lights with clear bulbs and white string (bought at Hobby Lobby)
  • 2.5 inch wide wired edged ribbon
  • a pipe cleaner in a coordinating color to the ribbon
  • scissors

Video

This is a project that would be easier to demonstrate than to write down instructions. Check out this video to see how I made this lighted glass block Christmas present step by step.

If you can’t see the embedded video above, click here to see it on YouTube.

Instructions

Insert the string of lights into the glass block. Measure 8 times the width of the glass block (64 inches) and cut it off the ribbon spool. Slip the ribbon underneath the glass block making sure the outside of the ribbon is facing down. Pull the ribbon tight and tie the ribbon together on the front of the block.

Turn the glass block over and pull the ribbon to the middle of the block and double knot it.

Cut off the excess ribbon. Use the ribbon to tie a bow and secure it with half a pipe cleaner. Watch my video to see how to tie the bow.

Fluff the bow and secure it to the double knot on the glass block with another half of a pipe cleaner.

Thanks Jeanie. It took a long time to get the bow right last year but this year I got it done my first try! I couldn’t believe it.

This is so lovely and festive! I really like the idea of laying it flat too….that’s something you don’t usually see with these decorated glass blocks. Thanks for the video tut as well!
